This author is not the same anonymous "Lady" who wrote Winter and Summer on Ontario's Shore (1861). This author is likely not Canadian, but her title appears on many lists of early Canadian children's texts. Some critics attribute it to Lucy Lyon, wife of Captain George Lyon. This assumption is based on an equally unproven attribution of the illustrations, based on George Lyon's illustrations of W.E. Parry's arctic expeditions, to Mary Heaviside Love.
